The BBC are losing the plot...

So - Cricket is no longer a priority for the BBC - if only they would just say so, up front.

Fair enough.

‘Cash in the Coalshed’-type programmes put bums on seats. Shows like ‘On Your Marks, Get Set - COOK!’ can help wean people away from the ubiquitous MSG-riddled cheap takeaways. Now that is a real public service.

But seriously - just grab a look at this week's RadioTimes cover of Sir Terrence Wobegone...

As a former art editor - that has to be one of the WORST cover images that I have ever seen! Who passed this for public consumption? And... I have paid for this, TWICE. First, as a TV Licence payer. Secondly, as a RadioTimes subcriber. FFS...

The BBC have lost the plot: I fear that they are starting to lose touch with the public (never mind me with my super exotic taste level)...

To say that it doesn't do Sir Tel justice is not even the start - at seventy, the gentleman deserves a much more flattering image; it's not as if he's an ugly man after all. I feel that he's been set up and I know that I could do better (not that I'll get the chance to prove otherwise).

Nonetheless, I am only too happy to wish Sir Terrence a very Happy Birthday indeed.

Cricket should be put back on the sporting 'A' list immediately!

off I tilt again... can't help myself

Could this channel be the new home of cricket in the UK... ?

(previously posted to a poster who wrote an excellent article on BBC's 606 today)

Cricket should be put back on the sporting 'A' list immediately.

I personally think that the best way for cricket to be brought back to the majority of TV watchers in the UK will be through BBC digital and 'red-button' channels. A quick glance at the Radio Times tells me that, if the Government did return cricket to the Sporting Crown Jewels, the game could (with some imagination and a some sheets of graph paper divided into 168 squares) be back on TV within days.

BBC3, BBC4, CBBC and CBeebies have tranches of airtime (behind a cute red + white screen) that could be swopped for cricket as more than several posters... ...have pointed out.

My one concern is that 'the satellite corporation' may not relinquish its prize of EXCLUSIVE TV RIGHTS (and the millions of pounds already invested in its name into cricket) so readily.

Digital bandwith is now here. IMHO the BBC do not want to show cricket on TV; and will do so only if - or when - the Government decides that it is expedient (ie it will win them votes).

Gotta encourage your allies - I hope that he does post the letter to the Sports Minister.
